LA Entertainment Weekly published a full feature on the single this week and writer Ryan Bazinet zeroed in on something that goes beyond a standard review.

He opens with the Tennyson question — is it better to have loved and lost, or never to have loved at all?

Then he walks through the song's production in a way that actually makes sense of the arrangement: the distorted guitar and piano arpeggios, the wailing solos panning left and right, Ruby's vocals moving between delicate and angry. He got it.

Upbeat drums drive the song along, like the forces of life that pull apart the two lovers at the center of the story.

The piece also covers the full band origin story for readers who are new to us, and closes with a note on what's coming: the music video for this single directed by Luke Ostermiller, and the short film planned for "The Ballad of Colleen Grey."
